The coffee, The Italian lawyer and Venice (Part 1)

One can never tell when they fall for someone and who they fall in love with. Being an addicted traveler, I fell in love with a handsome Italian man, that too during my vacation in Venice.

The famous Venice is not only just a prominent stunning city for me – it is far more special than that because it is exactly where I first met my Italian lover. I had traveled to Venice for my vacation in my break year for only a week. However, destiny had something else planned for me all along.

That particular day seemed like any other normal day of my amazing vacation. I had decided to go for some coffee at Bar Sarpi in Cannaregio district and so I did. Anyhow, after taking my coffee, I merely walked towards the door to leave and then ‘it’ happened- I bumped straight into a man, a stranger – embarrassing right?  Not only did I bump into the stranger, but I had also spilled my coffee on his T-shirt. However, the only words that came out of my mouth were words of apology in English while the Italian man could not stop laughing at my silly behavior. With all my embarrassment, I looked up at him and right away I felt something- something that cannot be explained in words.

Nonetheless, we picked up a conversation right after that and he introduced himself as Luca, a Venetian Lawyer and even a musician in his free time. We talked randomly and as much as we talked, I thought I wanted to know more about him. I definitely felt some kind of connection- it was amazing. To my great pleasure, he asked me out for coffee and I simply couldn’t say no. So, I stayed, and we talked over some first-class coffee and surprisingly, we talked about literally everything from books for Italy to traveling. He told me about how he simply loved traveling and that traveling the world was his dream. He told me so much more about his life and about this and that– It was amazing how quickly we actually connected. Anyways, after some amazing time, he offered to walk me to my rented Airbnb apartment. And after that day, my world changed. I fell head over heels in love with him and the feelings from his end were mutual as well. Moreover, he had invited me for a romantic date after that. He had brought some beautiful red roses for me, drove me on his Vespa and gifted me the most amazing and romantic date night ever– I was really impressed with how romantic Luca was! And to top it off, his broken English and impeccable Italian had made my date even more perfect.

After that, my entire week of my Venetian vacation had passed in the blink of an eye with my handsome Luca while enjoying the city and the Italian cuisine in Cannaregio. That is when I realized how time flies when you are with someone you love. It was the end of my Venice vacation –however, I was not ready to live Luca behind. Thus, I finally stayed back with Luca for not only one, but another six weeks! Six more weeks of love, happiness and smiles!

Who knew this journey to Venice would also be the beginning of my journey of love? Indeed, love comes along when least expected.

I am Marie-Noëlle Anaëlla, a Globetrotter and Travel Writer from the Netherlands, currently residing in Paris. I describe myself as a Third Culture Kid (TCK) and see the world as my home, having been born in the African country of Gabon and spending my early years in several diverse countries around the world. Living in places like Cameroon, Japan, China, India, Ireland, the United States and much more, has meant that it has become difficult for me to adequately describe where I am from to the people I meet. As a result, I am now simply calling myself a citizen of the world, coming from here, coming from there and coming from everywhere. Having caught the travel bug at a very young age, I have since made it my life and have now either lived in or visited more than 140 countries across 7 continents. Not traveling, for me, would be like staring at empty pages in a book, too afraid to open myself up to the world and see its beauty. This traveling life has now seen me take up a career in travel writing about my experiences and why it is so important. I spend much of my time encouraging others to travel, inspiring them to seek greatness and turn negative experiences into something positive. When I am not busy traveling around the world or writing about it, I practice Tai-Chi and meditation, treat my body with the utmost respect and loves a cup of English tea. What else do you want to know? :) Happy Traveling!
