Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and a global center for banking and finance. However, tourists visit Zurich for its’ picturesque landscapes and various unique things to do.

Face the majestical Old charm of the beautiful city

For those who are looking to get a proper feel of history in Zurich, they must visit the ‘Old Town’. Aptly named, it is a very old part of Zurich and dates back to medieval times. By stepping into Old Town will make you feel like you were transported back in time. There you can visit Muhlesteg Footbridge, renowned for the love locks attached to it and have a lovely time. The oldest Parish church St. Peter is another piece of history and has the largest clock face in all of Europe. You can, to this day, see the original 9th-century foundation walls and marvel how it withstood the test of time. Close to old town is the Swiss National Museum. This cultural museum is frequented by everyone and; alongside is displayed the beautiful garden and chateau. Visiting Zurich without seeing the Swiss National Museum is absolutely unthinkable. The Museum of Art is another museum worth a visit. Along with its collection of Swiss artists, you can also find the work of noble names like Picasso, Kandinsky, Chagall and Monet, hanging in the museum.

The little pleasures to create your picture perfect vacation

A boat trip or a full day lake cruise on Lake Zurich can help you unwind around nature and make for a simple yet excellent experience. Outdoor activities can also be planned around the lake like playing various water sports, sailing or swimming in the lake right in the middle of the city. You can also plan picnics on the island of Lutzelau and make a relaxing day out of it. Lindenhof is an elevated park with shady trees and ample benches for a lazy time. You aimlessly stroll through, have a beer or a glass of wine, play a game of chess in the many giant chess sets or just relax on the benches under the shade while enjoying the view over the city. The Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich can be an amazing place to visit, especially if you are interested learning about plants and the staggering varieties of them. Even if you are not, the experience can be very rewarding. For an opportunity of watching 2,000 animals from all over the world, visit Zoo Zurich. The variety of animals you can watch up close will have animal lovers excited. The international efforts of the zoo to protect the world’s endangered animals are also a plus point with animal lovers.

Walking in the streets of Zurich

The view from Uetliberg Mountain is said to be the best in all of Zurich. Travelers can walk or take a tram to the top of the mountain. You can see for miles ahead and the view down below to the water is worth it. A restaurant atop the mountain ensures all your basic needs are taken care of too. If a walk up to the mountain seems too simple for you, a hike to the Käferberg summit may be up your alley and you can take that up. These are some places and things one may visit and do when in Zurich. So, if they appeal to you, plan a visit to Zurich and enjoy!

I am Marie-Noëlle Anaëlla, a Globetrotter and Travel Writer from the Netherlands, currently residing in Paris. I describe myself as a Third Culture Kid (TCK) and see the world as my home, having been born in the African country of Gabon and spending my early years in several diverse countries around the world. Living in places like Cameroon, Japan, China, India, Ireland, the United States and much more, has meant that it has become difficult for me to adequately describe where I am from to the people I meet. As a result, I am now simply calling myself a citizen of the world, coming from here, coming from there and coming from everywhere. Having caught the travel bug at a very young age, I have since made it my life and have now either lived in or visited more than 140 countries across 7 continents. Not traveling, for me, would be like staring at empty pages in a book, too afraid to open myself up to the world and see its beauty. This traveling life has now seen me take up a career in travel writing about my experiences and why it is so important. I spend much of my time encouraging others to travel, inspiring them to seek greatness and turn negative experiences into something positive. When I am not busy traveling around the world or writing about it, I practice Tai-Chi and meditation, treat my body with the utmost respect and loves a cup of English tea. What else do you want to know? :) Happy Traveling!
